The Penis

The Penis is a multi functional organ in males. It has three functions assigned to it by nature. Sexual activity, reproduction and excretion are the three functions that a penis is designed to accomplish. The first two are interrelated, whilst the third one is a stand-alone function. Let us now look at each of these functions in detail.

Sexual Activity

Sexual activity is one of the most important functions assigned to the penis. When a male gets sexually aroused, blood rushes into the thousands of chambers inside the penis. This leads to a condition called an erection. Then the penis is inserted into the vagina of the female and the sexual activity begins. Finally at the peak of sexual excitement, the male undergoes orgasm, sperm is  discharged through an opening in the tip of the penis, called the urethra, and finally, the penis returns to its normal stage.

Reproduction

You can have sex with out reproduction – e.g. when you are using a condom. Moreover, you can also reproduce without a sexual intercourse – e.g. in-vitro fertilization. Hence the distinction between the two interrelated functions of a man’s penis.

Each drop of sperm has millions of live sperms which ovulate or fertilize the egg present in the the female (or during in-vitro fertilization. This results in reproduction.

Urination

This is a process in which the liquid waste from the human body, called urine, is excreted or expelled from the body via the penis. The urethra, which is incased within a penis, is used for this. It is duct-like tube that transports urine as well as sperm.
